[Album Review] “NEW ERA” by Kiss Daniel

The debut studio album “NEW ERA” of Kiss Daniel didn’t fail music enthusiasts one bit despite the delays. More surprising the album debuted at the US Billboard World album and peaked at number 8, a remarkable feat for a budding Nigerian act. No one, certainly no one(music lovers) with half a heart wouldn’t claim this album isn’t a success, even my mum who literally doesn’t buy the idea of circular music nodded in appreciation when “JOMBO” from the track starts playing on the sound system. Like Jombo, the album has a particular theme, which is Love but it’s not one dimensional as the tunes are refreshing, kudos to G-worldwide entertainment as they brought in other music producers like Young John, Beatburx, Jay Sleek, Masterkraft, Kimzbeatz to help DJ Coublon out in the production. As a pop artist, you have to give credit to Kiss Daniel for diversification, delving into the depths of other genres and coming out unscathed. This New Era Album is ironically ushering Nigerians into a taste of good music leaving the “Kpangolo” lyrics trend for good. This isn’t to say the album hasn’t got it’s flaws, first in my opinion its a big NO to have 20tracks in a album especially having some unfit songs like “Ghetto boys” and “Nothing dey” which should have been left in the cutting room, secondly not having an artist aside fellow label mate being featured on the song is also a NO for me especially considering the fact that Sugarboy was reduced to a back up singer in most songs and being featured on three of them.
Kiss Daniel can write songs, good ones at that, he can also sing, possesses a melodious voice and he can rap too(evidence on the track “Sin city”. When I look at him I see a young hybrid of Tuface, if he maintains this trend in coming years, then Tuface throne as the King of Africa’s music has finally found an heir.
Over here at Hypes, we say this is a wonderful debut album and it deserves a rating of (8/10)

PS: Where is our Headies next rated? Kiss is moving mountains, Lil Kesh is dropping hits, Korede Bello is not far behind, where is Reekado Banks?Kiss-daniel
